We explain federal benefits in plain words, or we do not publish it

How FRC content is written, reviewed, and kept honest. Every explainer here has one job: to help you make a good decision, even when that decision is to do nothing at all.

If a topic has a genuine downside, you will read it here first, not discover it later.
The one rule behind all of it
Our standards

How every guide is made

Written to teach, not to sell

Every guide, from Federal Retirement 101 on down, leads with plain-English explanation and includes an honest disadvantages section. We never present a benefit's upside without its trade-offs. If a topic has a genuine downside, you read it here first, not discover it later.

Reviewed by named, credentialed humans

Benefits content is reviewed by a licensed Federal Retirement Consultant before it is published. Each piece will carry a Reviewed by credit naming that consultant, their designation, and the license they hold.

Sourced and accurate

Rules and figures are checked against primary sources: the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the Thrift Savings Plan, and IRS guidance. Government figures are attributed and date-stamped. We cite the rule, not a rumor, and we correct what we get wrong.

Dated and maintained

Rules and figures change. Pages that depend on current figures carry a visible last-updated date and an attribution to the governing agency. When facts change, we update the page and the date.

Independent and educational

No provider pays for coverage, placement, or a kinder verdict. What appears in a guide is there on merit for the reader, never bought. Compensation is explained plainly on how an FRC is paid.

Compliant by default

We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with or endorsed by OPM, the TSP, or any U.S. government agency. We say so, we attribute government figures, and we tell you to confirm any number with the governing plan or agency before you act.

No hype, on purpose

What you will never find here

  • Countdown timers, fake scarcity, or "today only" pressure on a permanent decision.
  • Absolute promises like "guaranteed the biggest pension" or "you will never pay for a mistake."
  • A benefit shown without the eligibility rules, deadlines, and trade-offs that come with it.
  • Anonymous authorship. A real, verifiable person stands behind what you read.
Corrections process

When we get something wrong

We will. When it happens, here is exactly what we do about it.

  1. 1

You or an advisor flags it

Anyone can report an error through our contact page. Our own advisors also re-read guides when a rule or figure changes.

  2. 2

    We verify against the source

We check the claim against the primary source: the OPM rule, the regulation, or the tax guidance. If it is wrong, it gets fixed, not defended.

  3. 3

We update the page and the date

The correction goes live, the last-updated date changes, and material corrections are noted so the record is honest, not quietly rewritten.

For who is behind the designation, read about us; for the compensation side of this honesty, read how an FRC is paid.
